Took A Rumorby Carter Ashby

Thanks to a flamboyant, small-town gossip blogger, Ivy Turner’s lily-white reputation has just been unceremoniously muddied. Rumor has it Ivy has succumbed to temptation and slept with one of the Deathridge brothers. Sources can’t confirm which of the four, sexy cowboys she’s taken up with, but everyone in town is weighing in.
Ivy would gladly step forward and defend her good name, except that the rumor happens to be true. Perplexed that her little indiscretion has somehow made it into the public eye, Ivy sets out to find the rumor’s source. In the process, she becomes the unwitting keeper of all the Deathridge brothers’ rather formidable secrets.
Now, not only does she have to keep taking hits to her reputation to protect the brothers, but all these secrets and lies are keeping her from exploring her burgeoning feelings for one of them. But if Jake, Cody, Dallas, and Boone think that Ivy’s patience is limitless, they’re in for a shock. Because when Ivy breaks, she’s taking everyone down with her.
CAUTION…Gossip hurts people. Don’t gossip. Don’t listen to it, share it or start it…the outcome can be very, very, very destructive. Just a side note: Our old pastor told us the story of a group of church gossips who loved to talk about the “what’s what.” Well, it turns out one young married man had his car seen parked several times at the home of a young woman in town. The gossip got back to his young wife (and new mother) who was battling post-partum depression. When he came home one day from work, he found his wife dead and newborn baby crying. A note said he can move on with his “new love” since she was broken and couldn’t seem to get happy. He was at the other woman’s house taking piano lessons so he could play the piano to the song he had written his wife and baby about his love for them as a surprise for Christmas…Instead of gossiping, go to the young mother with love and food and lighten her burden. PSA out.
I liked this story but every time that gossip hound surfaced, I thought of the above story I just shared…Imagine what that gossip blogger could do/has done to those weaker than Ivy Turner. Ivy is da bomb! She is smart, feisty and seriously in lust with one of the Deathridge boys. But the more she tries to forget him, the more his brothers are in her business. As the story moves to the ins and outs of each brother, I really liked each and every one of them. I have a soft spot for Cody though…I gotta admit. As the gossip gets turned up, the unexpected outcome is the pure rage of Mr. Deathridge. He is utterly incensed at the idea of one his boys intimate with Ivy Turner. Turner Senior and Deathridge Senior don’t talk…all Deathridge’s doing. The results has been decades of estrangement between the two men, despite their wives having been best friends, up until Ivy’s mom passed.
I really enjoyed Ivy and her fortitude under duress. As the town and blogger turn up the pressure…Ivy finally blows, not cracks, BLOWS. And the shrapnel is far reaching. I loved the resolution and evolution of the characters…ENJOY!
