This week, I thought I would give a summary of a Girlfriend’s Guide to Fighting! Yes, I mean fighting… for sport!
Here are a couple new releases that I read this month:
Tap Out by Michelle Mannon releasing April 14, 2014. (I gave this awesome book a 4 ½ star rating…only took the half off because near the beginning Sophie drove me a bit mad…but then both Caden and I warmed up to her…Caden more so than I. But then he was also blinded by lust and the desire to confirm or deny her declaration of her commando state. This book had great side characters, fun dialogue and a great set of leads who knew how to burn up the sheets, toss verbal barbs and fight like hell to get their happy ever after).
Summary: Late-night shock jock Sophie Morelle has been fired, dumped by her network after an embarrassing incident cost them big bucks. But she knows just how to get back on her feet—by filming a raw, gritty documentary about MMA fighters, starring the hottest welterweight around. The only problem? He’s the one responsible for ruining her life. MMA-champion-turned-model Caden Kelly is hell-bent on reestablishing himself as the best fighter in the country. He’d been on a roll, too, until that loudmouth reporter hit him in the head with a camera on national TV. The headaches he’s suffered since are nothing compared to the one he gets when she shows up, seeking an exclusive. That Sophie’s gorgeous is undeniable…but she’s also the most infuriating woman he’s ever met. Stepping into the ring with Caden Kelly is not for the faint of heart, but Sophie’s never been the delicate type. This champion may have finally met his match—both in and out of the bedroom.
Against the Cage (Worth the Fight #1) by Sidney Halston releasing May 27, 2014. (This book was a total surprise for me, as I must have requested it and lost it on my iPAD. I loved, loved, loved these two crazy nuts. Chrissy’s red pumps in the first few pages confirmed that she and I would be friends. But then when Jack rolls onto the scene, be still my beating heart. Old frienemies turned lovers??? Oh, heck ya! Then add in some extremely well written and perfectly executed fight scenes? I am so gonna give this book a 5 Star rating. Look for this on out in May).
Summary: For Chrissy Martin, returning to her Florida hometown always seems to bring bad luck. The day starts with a breakup text, followed by a jailhouse phone call from her troublemaker brother. Now a routine traffic stop has ended with her accidentally punching an officer . . . in a delicate place. Then Chrissy realizes that the hot cop on the receiving end of her right hook is none other than the man from her teenage fantasies. Jack Daniels knows how to take a hit. After all, when he’s not chasing reckless drivers, he’s kicking ass in a mixed martial arts ring. So what takes his breath away isn’t the low blow, but the woman who dealt it: a gorgeous knockout with legs Jack wouldn’t mind being pinned under—who just so happens to be his best friend’s nerdy little sister, all grown up. Soon their instant chemistry leads to a sizzling affair, but Jack and Chrissy are fighting an uphill battle if they want to make love last beyond the final bell.
Now…onto some of my “All-time” favorite fight books!!!
Star Crossed (Battered Hearts #2) by Kele Moon. (Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou my Romeo? I loved this whole series, but this one I hold in a soft spot…I can’t wait to get more of Romeo’s brothers. Super loved 5 star book).
Summary: Heavyweight MMA fighter, Romeo Wellings comes from the hard streets of New York where his family ties to the mafia cause him nothing but pain. His life takes a surprising detour when he crosses paths with the twin sister of his long time enemy. After a steamy one-night stand, he faces the fight of his life, but it’s not in the cage. The secret relationship that blooms between Romeo and his real life Juliet has him battling his family and a dark past rather than let her go. The only lawyer in her hometown of Garnet, Jules Conner is also a volunteer Sheriff’s deputy and co-owner of a successful MMA training center. Strong and dependable, Jules is always there for those who need her. Until one forbidden night in Las Vegas with Romeo leaves her feeling so alive she can’t stop reaching out to the sexy, bad boy of MMA, even knowing the forbidden love affair could jeopardize everything. As the tide rises against them and the people they love work at keeping them apart, Romeo and Jules hold onto a dream for a better life together and vow to go down fighting rather than accept a tragic ending.
Seducing Cinderella (Fighting for Love #1) by Gina L. Maxwell (This book falls on my F.E.A.R shelf…F everything and run…to buy this book! Ya, that good, and Book #2 Rules of Entanglement is even better!!)
Summary: He’ll teach her the art of seduction…for a price. Mixed martial arts fighter Reid Andrews’s chance to reclaim his title as light heavyweight champ is shattered when he’s injured only months before the rematch. To make sure he’s healed in time, his trainer sends him to recuperate under a professional’s care—Reid’s best friend’s little sister, all grown up. Disorganized and bookish Lucie Miller needs some professional help of her own. She’d do anything to catch the eye of a doctor she’s crushed on for years, so when Reid offers seduction lessons in exchange for 24/7 conditioning for the biggest fight of his career, Lucie jumps at the chance. Soon Reid finds himself in the fight of his life…winning Lucie’s heart before she gives it to someone else.
12 Rounds (Knockout #1) by Lauren Hammond (my anger over the book 13 Rounds prohibits me from discussing this book further…but 12 Rounds was out of the park amazing! But suffice to say, I LOVED this book and while it did have a mildish cliffhanger that was not even remotely satisfied by 13 Rounds, the 50 page not even a novella-why was this even published, I still recommend this book to fight fans!)
Summary: Sean (Right-Hook) Reilly knows a few things about himself. One, he’s the middle-weight boxing champion of the world with an undefeated record. Two, women find his cocky persona, chiseled biceps, and inked body sexy. Also, the fact that it’s known that he doesn’t do relationships only adds to his sex appeal. And three, he’s Irish, proud of it, and a member of the Braithreac…moreSean (Right-Hook) Reilly knows a few things about himself. One, he’s the middle-weight boxing champion of the world with an undefeated record. Two, women find his cocky persona, chiseled biceps, and inked body sexy. Also, the fact that it’s known that he doesn’t do relationships only adds to his sex appeal. And three, he’s Irish, proud of it, and a member of the Braithreachas Don Saol, a branch of the Irish mafia and king pins of the drug cartel taking over the streets of Cleveland. Connor Doyle (aka Connie) the boss and leader of the Braithreachas Don Saol, has been like a father to Sean, taking him under his wing and teaching him how to survive on the streets after the death of his parents. Sean has never been ungrateful, but has always wanted one thing… More. More to live for. More to fight for. More to believe in. A chance at a future without drugs or guns. A chance at a future without wondering which day will be his last.
There’s only one problem with that. You live by the braithreachas. You die by the braithreachas. And Sean knows whether Connie considers him to be family or not, the only way he’ll be leaving the braithreachas is in a body bag. Hadlee Flax has had a year to overcome her issues. After almost being raped and brutalized, she’s putting her best foot forward, seeing a therapist, and has even(with some persuasion from her best friend, Lara) enrolled in self defense classes. And she’s doing well moving on with her life until she meets the dark, and conflicted Irish boxing champion of the world, Sean Reilly. Hadlee is immediately drawn to the gorgeous, cold, and mysterious man who speaks with a slight Irish brogue. She soon learns that there is much more to him than his darkened gaze, cool demeanor, and body covered in tattoos. He’s not the type of man she thought he was. And Hadlee finds herself doing something she never thought she would do in the last year…
Falling for a guy. Falling for Sean Reilly. A man who is on the path to becoming a boxing legend. One thing Hadlee doesn’t know is the other part of Seans’ life. His life of drug running, and killing. Or the fact that when he’s not boxing he’s walking the streets with a gat tucked into the back of his loose jeans, and glancing over his shoulder at every turn.
But it doesn’t take Hadlee long to learn that some attractions and relationships can be fatal. And sometimes…They just might be worth fighting for.
